Salma El-Wardany is a writer, poet and presenter and in her new book, These Impossible Things, she tells the story of three women coming to terms with the life choices that they have made. This is a tale of reconciling love, loss, faith, womanhood and friendship, and how one moment, in a life where everything feels at odds, can change everything.

Join Salma as she takes us through themes of female friendships and challenging the current depiction of Muslim women in the media as well as faith, sex and love and loss.

Speakers:

Salma El-Wardany is a writer, poet and BBC radio presenter. She has given two popular TEDx talks and partners with organisations around the world to have the uncomfortable conversations we have ignored for so long. Salma’s work centres around female stories and bringing the often-ignored realities of women into the spotlight. Between protesting and fighting in the revolution, she started a blog to document her experiences as a young woman in Cairo while discussing ideas of womanhood and how gender identities manifest in today’s world. Returning from Egypt she entered the corporate world in London, only to find it far less fulfilling than revolutions and writing, and so eventually left to peruse poetry and novels, while also setting up her own marketing business.

Eleanor Newton has been the Director of The Trouble Club since 2020. She’s hosted and moderated events with iconic speakers such as Jess Phillips, Jung Chang, Otegha Uwagba and Gloria Steinem.
