Creativity and the New Vocational Education Agenda
December 7, 6:15 pm
December 7, 6:15 pm
Alan Milburn’s independent review, Young People and Work, was published in interim form on 28 May 2026. Two months later, Prime Minister Andy Burnham unveiled plans to place technical education on an equal footing with academic study. New routes will combine core subjects with technical education linked to local jobs, and leading into T Levels, apprenticeships and other qualifications, tackling a youth unemployment crisis in which more than a million young people are not in education, employment or training (NEET). Reforms will roll out nationally from September 2028.
Meanwhile, many of these steps are already being taken at London’s All City Arts College, a non-fee-paying independent creative school which provides specialist education & training in performing arts, creative media production, art, music & craft & design for 14-19 year-olds. As well as creating clear routes to employment for its students through its Creative Sector Pathway programme, a supported internship for young people with EHCPs, the college recognises that a creative education is about so much more than employability.
Join a panel including the college principal and Conduit member James Fornara, Baroness Beeban Kidron, young people and cultural leaders for an evening of conversation and performance celebrating the opportunities in the creative industries and the vital importance of creativity in schools.
