At this pivotal moment, our panel of experts will consider the potential forks in the road: one leading to ongoing discord and the other possibly towards building just and sustainable relationships. We will delve into the historical complexities and the current escalations that inform this conflict, seeking to uncover how recent events might serve as a turning point.
We will place particular emphasis on exploring practical and hopeful strategies that could support a move towards resolution and peace. How can international and local communities contribute effectively? What roles can diplomacy, policy, and grassroots movements play in forging a future marked not by conflict, but by coexistence?
Speakers:
Professor Yossi Mekelberg has been an associate fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House since 2002 and currently a visiting professor of International Relations at the University of Roehampton. He was previously professor of international relations at Regent’s University, where he was head of the international relations and social sciences programme, and the faculty lead on outreach projects. He had taught at Regent’s University since 1996, and before that at King’s College, London. For four years he wrote a weekly column for the Al-Arabiya network before moving to write twice a week for Arab News. For 17 years he was also a member of the Human Rights Watch London Committee.Inaddition Yossi is a regular contributor to international media on a variety of international affairs issues.
Tahani Mustafa is the senior Palestine analyst at the International Crisis Group. She has a background in development and security governance in the Middle East, and has worked in academia and policy advocacy. Based between the UK, Jordan and Israel/Palestine, she holds a Ph.D in Politics and International Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London
Amjad Iraqi is a senior editor at +972 Magazine. He is also an associate fellow with Chatham House’s MENA Programme, a policy member of Al-Shabaka, and was previously an advocacy coordinator at the legal center Adalah.
