Bringing together a community of 100 Black voices ranging from artists to athletes, musicians to medics, Still Breathing: 100 Black Voices on Racism, is a timely publication on the Black British experience, co-edited by actors Suzette Llewellyn and Suzanne Packer.
Join us for a special conversation in the Conduit Reading Room alongside co-author Suzette Llewellyn and two of the book’s contributors, Bonnie Greer and Albie Amankona, to explore the book and where Britain, and the world, needs to go in order to become a model of racial equity.

Suzette Llewellyn is an actor and co-author of Still Breathing: 100 Black Voices on Racism, which she co-edited with Suzanne Packer. She trained at LAMDA and made her debut as Viola in Twelfth Night. She is currently in rehearsals with a new play for the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. As a co-founder of the Black British women’s theatre group, The BiBi Crew, she writes and performs material that combines comedy, drama, music and dance. Her interest in access issues led her to study British Sign Language and she occasionally works as a sign language communicator. Suzette is a proud ambassador for the Independent Film Trust whose aims include supporting emerging artists to become industry leaders and creative cultural pioneers
Bonnie Greer OBE, is an American-British playwright, novelist, and critic. In 2010 Bonnie was named by the Observer as one of the 300 Public Intellectuals in the UK – the only female playwright – and was also awarded an OBE. A celebrated broadcaster and critic, she has also served on the boards of several leading arts organisations. She hails from the South Side of Chicago and from London since 1986. She has been Deputy Chair of the British Museum, and has served on the boards of RADA, London Film School and Theatre Royal, Stratford East. Bonnie is currently Chancellor of Kingston University. Her acclaimed eight-part Audible series In Search of Black History was released in 2020.
Albie Amankona is a Political Commentator, Financial Analyst & Co-Founder of Conservatives Against Racism. Albie was born in London and graduated from the London School of Economics in 2017. He subsequently worked at fashion-tech start-up Thread before beginning his role at Third Bridge Group, where he works as a financial analyst specialising in Technology, Media & Telecoms investment research and is Deputy Head of Diversity & Inclusion. In 2020, Albie co-founded the UK’s first centre-right anti-racist organisation, Conservatives Against Racism For Equality (CARFE) with Siobhan Aarons. Albie is a political commentator for the BBC, GB News, LBC, TalkRADIO, ITV & Sky. His work has received coverage in media outlets such as CNN, HuffPost, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Mirror & The Sun to name a few.
Patricia Hamzahee as an investor, donor and mentor. She advises companies on responsible investment strategies and helps social enterprises attract private capital. Patricia also advocates for access to funding for diverse founders and for Black-led non-profits. She sits or has sat on the board of organisations working to solve underrepresentation of women and people of colour such as Women in Social Finance and Black Cultural Archives.
