This year, over 300 organisations globally committed to nature-related disclosures based on the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosure’s (TNFD) recommendations, while nature-related reporting requirements for the EU’s CSRD take effect. Agricultural subsidy reform is taking effect in places like the UK and India, and trade policies like EUDR are beginning to reshape supply chains globally to root out deforestation. Despite implementation challenges on all these fronts, are we at a turning point for biodiversity policy?
Siddarth Shrikanth started his career at McKinsey & Company in London, where he designed and implemented decarbonisation strategies for corporates, investors and governments. He was on the founding team of McKinsey’s environmental incubator, McKinsey.org, and led the Rethinking Recycling programme in Indonesia before a stint as a foreign correspondent for the Financial Times in Hong Kong. He helped co-found Working Trees, a natural carbon removal startup, and has consulted for the World Bank. He is the author of The Case for Nature. He is currently a Director on the Investment Team at Just Climate, having joined the company in 2021.
Ben McCarthy is the Head of Nature and Restoration Ecology at the National Trust. As Head of Nature Conservation & Restoration Ecology, Ben provides strategic direction and leadership for the National Trust in realising their ambition for nature and nature-based climate solutions across their 250,000ha estate. He sits within the new Science & Nature Directorate that is building our evidence and reputation as a nature conservation organisation having held senior positions within statutory and NGO conservation organisations for the last twenty years that saw him work across the UK and internationally. In his spare time Ben enjoys living on an organic small holding and creating opportunities for people to experience nature first hand.
Dimple Patel is a highly accomplished entrepreneur, currently CEO at NatureMetrics, the leading provider of nature data intelligence solutions. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated expertise across all stages of business, from generating initial ideas and developing minimum viable products (MVPs) to executing strategic plans, launching new markets, and overseeing acquisitions and exits. With a strong background in Finance, Dimple brings a wealth of experience in macroeconomic analysis, financial management, fundraising through venture capital (VC), private equity (PE), and debt, as well as investor relations and forecasting for strategic business projects. Her insights and skills in these areas have proven instrumental in securing financial support and driving strategic growth. Dimple is deeply passionate about creating social impact and actively supports underrepresented founders as a mentor and advisor. She also serves as an ambassador for grassroots organizations that provide opportunities for young people. Dimple regularly shares her expertise through articles for publishers such as Drapers magazine and Sifted, as well as corporate speaking engagements both in the UK and internationally.
Archie Struthers is CEO of Nattergal. He has over 2 decades of global executive leadership experience, having developed multiple innovative investment solution capabilities primarily at BlackRock and then Standard Life/Aberdeen. He also oversees his family estate where he grew up in Argyll, Scotland.
Helen Avery is a Director of Nature Programmes and GFI Hive within the Green Finance Institute. She leads the Institute’s work on supporting the development of a pipeline of investible nature projects and on building investor demand, including advising and supporting the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund. The Institute also hosts the Secretariat for the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures and Helen oversees the UK National Consultation Group. In previous roles, Helen was Sustainable Finance Editor and Global Wealth Management Editor with Euromoney Magazine.
