Stephen Sackur and Carole Cadwalladr: Hard Truth
Join us for a passionate defence of investigative journalism in the face of authoritarian political power, organised crime and a monopolistic tech elite.
Leading economist and technology expert Daniel Susskind explores how we can flourish in the age of AI, from the skills children should learn to the future of white-collar work, education, creativity and human expertise.
Rather than trying to predict the “jobs of the future”, Susskind argues that we need to prepare people for uncertainty itself. He explains why literacy, numeracy and critical thinking still matter, why schools should “teach both, test both” with AI, and why human qualities such as judgment, character and moral expertise could become increasingly important.
The conversation also explores artificial general intelligence (AGI), whether some forms of work will remain uniquely human, the risks of AI dependency, inequality and corporate power, and why governments may need to take a much larger role in shaping the technology.

Daniel Susskind is a leading expert on work and technology. He is the Mercers’ School Memorial Professor of Business at Gresham College, a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Ethics in AI at Oxford University, a Digital Fellow at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and a Research Professor at King’s College London. He is the author of Growth: A Reckoning, A World Without Work and co-author of The Future of the Professions. He is a member of the British Government’s Expert Panel on AI and the Future of Work. Previously, he worked in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, in the Policy Unit in 10 Downing Street, and in the Cabinet Office.
