Words at War – The Responsibility of Literature

September 9, 6:30 pm

Yaryna Chornohuz, Inua Ellams and Olesya Khromeychuk talk to Misha Glenny

Dismissed by some as mere escapism in times of crisis, creating and enjoying literature can also be an act of resistance: a way of connecting people across borders, time, and conflict.

For Nigerian poet Inua Ellams, literature is a collective artform capable of bringing together communities of African origin living in the post-colonial continent; the work of Ukrainian poet and military medic Yaryna Chornohuz offers a familiar shoulder to lean on in the darkness of war; and Ukrainian Institute London director Olesya Khromeychuk’s research bears witness to the political and military violence that marks East European history.

In a special event to mark the opening of Lviv BookForum 2026, join this trio of acclaimed writers and journalist Misha Glenny in an evening of fiction, poetry, and reflections at The Conduit as we welcome old friends and new faces to our stage for this timely conversation.
