Partnering together for a more just, prosperous and sustainable future
According to the UN, 5 billion people will be living in cities by 2030. To keep cities healthy, safe and livable as populations and temperatures rise, we need to ensure that urban planning and infrastructure is sustainably and resiliently designed. Key to this is protecting and creating green spaces like parks, green walls, and botanical gardens, which have been shown by the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCCAR) to help mitigate city heat.
Last year, The Conduit and our Impact Partner, The Crown Estate, issued a call for innovative urban greening ideas that could be implemented in St. James’s Market, a prominent Central London neighbourhood. Our goal was to develop impactful urban greening solutions that are resilient to high footfalls and don’t need lots of upkeep.
After receiving many submissions, we hosted a Lab Day, where grassroots innovators came together to pitch their urban greening solutions. The day was filled with inspiring ideas, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, and culminated in The Crown Estate choosing a winning proposition to enhance their Central London portfolio as part of their commitment to working with innovators to create greener, more sustainable spaces.
By partnering and collaborating with values-aligned companies and organisations, we are able to pool resources, leverage networks, and amplify reach –– truly scaling our ability to create impact. This is the essence of our impact partnerships: inspiring action from collaboration. We partner with organisations like The Crown Estate, Julius Baer, the National Trust, and the Global Wind Energy Council on content and convenings, focusing on areas from safeguarding nature, to social entrepreneurship, to facilitating the transition to net zero.
