No longer the new kids on the block, podcasts continue to have a dramatic impact on the media industry. With content creators entering the space and new media companies investing heavily in established brands, how are newcomers and legacy players competing in the digital era?
As more people turn to podcasts to build personal and professional brands, is the industry at risk of over-saturation?
Bringing together leading podcasters and media experts, The Conduit and the Media Society explore the future of podcasts. Join us as we ask: Do we really need this many podcasts? What makes some successful while others fail? How do creators make money? Is the shift towards video a positive evolution or a distraction? And how will AI transform the sector in the years ahead?
Adam Fleming is lead presenter of the daily BBC ‘Newscast’ podcast and host of the culture-focused ‘AntiSocial’ podcast. Beyond audio, he is a broadcaster and journalist across BBC television. He has been the BBC’s Chief Political Correspondent and Brussels reporter.
Chloe Straw is Director of Operations at Goalhanger, the UK’s largest independent podcast producer. Before joining the network, she was CEO of the industry body AudioUK, where she secured the audio sector’s first seat on the Creative Industries Council. A prominent voice in the audio sector, she is well known for arguing for creator growth, innovative approaches to IP, and the commercial expansion of UK podcasts.
Nick Hilton is one of the UK’s top current affairs podcast producers. Director and co-founder of the podcast production company Podot. Chief TV critic for the Independent. Former podcast editor and producer for the New Statesman and Spectator. Producer of the critically acclaimed Movers and Shakers podcast.
Ritula Shah is currently with Classic FM, she was formerly the main presenter of BBC Radio 4’s flagship programme, The World Tonight. She also presented Woman’s Hour and The World Today on the BBC World Service.
