Terry Deary is an English author, actor, and performer best known for creating the Horrible Histories series, which has captivated young readers worldwide and inspired the award-winning CBBC television adaptation. Born in Sunderland in 1946, Terry began his career as a professional actor in 1972 and has since worked as a theatre director, museum manager, drama teacher, and television presenter. He continues to perform on stage, including The Terry Deary History Roadshow. A dedicated runner, he has completed the Great North Run 25 times. In 2025, he will expand his writing to include murder-mystery and non-fiction for adults.
