World Briefing: What Does 2023 Have in Store?

2022 was certainly an interesting year. Global dynamics shifted, politics and parties were questioned and war broke out on multiple battlefields. As we begin a new year, join us for an expert analysis session exploring the latest world news events and what emerging trends we should be looking out for in 2023. Moderated by acclaimed global affairs analyst Michael Bociurkiw, we will be bringing together foreign correspondents and experts to provide insight into what is really happening on the global agenda.

This power panel of experts and journalists will offer their predictions for the coming year, to help you make informed decisions about crucial issues. From the unprecedented protests in Iran, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and growing instability in the Indo-Pacific to the cost of living and energy crisis in a post-pandemic world. We will discuss the rise of the far-right movement, urgent challenges over climate change and technological innovation and address whether the world is more safer and secure than a year ago.

Moderator:

Michael Bociurkiwis a global affairs analyst, speaker and journalist, and the author of Digital Pandemic: How tech went from bad to good. In January 2022, he became a senior fellow at the Washington, DC-based Atlantic Council, attached to its Eurasia Center.

Speakers:

Nima Elbagir is a Sudanese-born journalist and an award-winning international television correspondent. She joined CNN as a London-based International Investigative Correspondent. In 2008, she picked up two Foreign Press Association Awards – TV News Story of the Year and Broadcast Journalist of the Year.

Karoline Kan is the author of Under Red Skies: Three Generations of Life, Loss and Hope in China, previously Bloomberg Environment Correspondent and editor of China Dialogue.

Roland Oliphant is the Telegraph’s Senior Foreign Correspondent.

Jon Lee Anderson is an American biographer, author, investigative reporter, war correspondent, and staff writer for The New Yorker.

Anne McElvoy is an Executive Editor for The Economist and a columnist for the Evening Standard.
